A few days ago, the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championship ended in Tampere, Finland. For the second time in a row, the world championship was held without the participation of Russian hockey players who were suspended from participation in the competition in March 2022 for political reasons.
The current World Championship gave a lot of sensations and unexpected results, but the team of Canada once again became the champion, which played in Finland and Latvia with not the most combat team consisting of juniors.
The main sensation of the tournament was presented by the hosts, the Latvian national team for the first time in history made it to the match for 3rd place, where, in front of their fans, they won medals of the Ice Hockey World Championship. As part of the Latvian national team, the former captain of the Nizhny Novgorod “Torpedo” Kaspars Daugavins became the bronze medalist of the World Hockey Championship. He played for the team from Nizhny Novgorod from 2015 to 2018, being one of the leaders of Peteris Skudra’s team.
