Former shiigumen Sergius reduced his sentence by a month – Kommersant

The Moscow City Court mitigated the punishment of Nikolai Romanov (former shiigumen Sergius) in the case of inciting hatred and enmity. The term of imprisonment in the colony was reduced by one month – from seven years to six years and eleven months. This was reported to “Interfax” in the press service of the court.

The Moscow City Court also softened the term of stay in the colony for one month – from five years to four years and eleven months.

When mitigating the sentence in the case of the schiigumen, the court of appeal took into account his charitable activities, in the case of Vsevolod Moguchev, the presence of dependent relatives. The rest of the sentences were left unchanged.

Nikolai Romanov and Vsevolod Moguchev were found guilty of inciting hatred and enmity by an organized group (paragraph “c” of part 2 of article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) in January of this year. The basis for the case was a series of videos.

The former shiigumen, together with his supporters, in 2020 seized the Sredneuralsky convent founded by him. Soon he was detained, deprived of his dignity and excommunicated from the Church.

In 2021, the shiigumen was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for inciting suicide, violating the right to freedom of conscience and religion, and arbitrariness. After complaints from former pupils of the Sredneuralsky Monastery, the Investigative Committee opened a case on the torture of minors.
