Dawn: Former Pakistani PM Imran Khan’s house surrounded by police
Dawn reported on Wednesday that Pakistani police surrounded the home of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Police said Khan provided asylum to people who staged protests last week against his arrest in a corruption case.
Imran Khan was detained on May 9 in an Islamabad courtroom in connection with the Al-Qadir case on suspicion of committing corruption offences. On May 10, the court ruled that Khan should be taken into custody for 8 days. Mass protests began in the country, the police detained more than 2 thousand people.
The investigation alleges that Khan and his supporters set up a fund to establish Al-Qadeer University, causing damage to the Pakistani budget in the amount of about $ 170 million.
Later, the Supreme Court of Pakistan found that Khan’s detention was unlawful and demanded that he be returned to his freedom immediately.
Several cases have been filed against Khan. In particular, he is suspected of receiving gifts from foreign leaders worth about $630,000.
And in March, Khan was accused of terrorism after his supporters clashed with police.
