The Central District Military Court in Yekaterinburg sentenced a former graduate student of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov Azat Miftakhov to four years in a maximum security colony. The lawyer of the convicted person, Svetlana Sidorkina, spoke about this on Thursday, March 28.

As the lawyer clarified, in the case of justifying terrorism, her ward will have to serve two years and six months in prison, and will be transferred to a colony to serve the remaining sentence.

Miftakhov and the defense do not agree with the court’s decision and are planning to appeal it.

In September 2023, Miftakhov was detained immediately after leaving the colony, where he was serving a sentence for setting fire to the United Russia office in Khimki. The court authorized the detention of the ex-graduate student in the case of justifying terrorism.

Meanwhile, in the Magadan region, a 75-year-old resident of the village of Ola was detained, who in the messenger spoke approvingly of the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall. The pensioner, who faces up to seven years in prison, insists that he repents and admits that he “did something stupid.”
