Former hieromonk of the Russian Orthodox Church sentenced for fakes about the RF Armed Forces

The Kalininsky District Court of St. Petersburg sentenced Dmitry Kurmoyarov, former hieromonk Ionne of the Novosibirsk diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, to three years in a penal colony for publicly disseminating knowingly false information about the use of the RF Armed Forces. The defendant fully admitted his guilt.
As noted in the joint press service of the courts of St. Petersburg, the priest previously served in the Vinnitsa diocese of the UOC, but in Ukraine in 2018 an administrative case was opened against him for publishing a postcard depicting the St. George ribbon. Then he moved to Russia, but here in 2020 he publicly called the Main Temple of the Armed Forces a “pagan temple”, after which he was temporarily banned from serving, created a YouTube channel where he criticized the state of affairs in the Church and the actions of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine. In April last year, he was stripped of his holy orders.
