Former Belgorod vice-governor Polezhaev pleaded guilty to bribery

The former deputy governor of the Belgorod region, Konstantin Polezhaev, pleaded guilty to taking bribes on an especially large scale. The prosecution requested house arrest for him, report journalists from the court.
According to the SUSK report for the Belgorod Region, Polezhaev is suspected of committing two crimes related to taking bribes in January 2022 and 2023. According to investigators, he received two cars from the director of a construction company in exchange for his help in checking the construction of wastewater treatment plants and concluding contracts with this company. The amount of the bribe amounted to more than 17 million rubles.
At a meeting on Saturday in the Sverdlovsky District Court of Belgorod, the prosecution requested house arrest for Polezhaev, the defense agreed with them. The former official pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
Konstantin Polezhaev previously held the position of Deputy Governor of the Belgorod Region and Head of the Housing and Public Utilities Department. He was also the head of the administration of Belgorod from 2015 to 2019 and was awarded many diplomas and thanks.
On July 4, the governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced the removal of Polezhaev from his post due to poor organization of restoration work in the shelled areas of Shebekino and Novaya Tavolzhanka.
