The forest fire area in Gelendzhik has increased to 30 hectares, more than 400 people and 70 pieces of equipment are involved in extinguishing it. Two Mi-8 helicopters were also involved, reported Ministry of Emergency Situations.
There were no casualties. According to the agency, the extinguishing is complicated by strong winds with gusts of up to 30 m/s and rugged terrain. The Ministry of Emergency Situations clarified that there is no threat to infrastructure facilities.
The fire started yesterday, August 29, in the Kupriyanov Shchel microdistrict on Rechnaya Street. Initially, the fire area was estimated at 1.5 hectares, later it spread to the territory of Bobrukovo Shchel. Administration of Gelendzhik asked residents with equipment and fire extinguishers to help extinguish the fire. A suspect was arrested for setting fire to dry grass.
