For elderly patients, it was proposed to introduce special doctors

The office of a gerontologist in each district and city polyclinic was proposed to be opened by activists of the Russian Public Initiative.
As MK found out, the initiative of people’s experts to allocate a separate doctor for grandparents appeared due to the fact that district doctors are not always ready to help elderly patients due to lack of time and motivation. As a result, older people do not get the care they need from therapists. Therapists often attribute the health features of the elderly to their age and are not interested in their treatment. However, in reality, the thoughtful approach of an interested doctor can temporarily postpone the unpleasant symptoms of old age.
Activists believe that these specialists can be entrusted with the primary appointment of people over 60 without the participation of a therapist; referral to narrow specialists; home visits to patients who, due to old age, cannot reach the polyclinic – in this case, the primary call can be made by the local general practitioner, who will transfer the observation to the gerontologist. Also, a gerontologist in a polyclinic, together with neurologists and psychiatrists, can be engaged in the prevention of senile dementia and monitor patients with dementia.
