Football referee from Crimea Konstantin Popov, who volunteered for a special operation, died after being wounded at the front, Kommersant was told in the Crimean Football Union (CFU).

According to representatives of the organization, Konstantin Popov was blown up by a mine while performing a combat mission in the Donetsk direction.

“The doctors of the hospital in St. Petersburg fought for his life for a week, but, unfortunately, they could not help,” the FSC specified.

Mr. Popov was 25 years old. He has more than 50 championship and cup matches held under the auspices of the Crimean Football Union.

As his colleagues told Kommersant, he went to the front as a volunteer, signing a contract with the armed forces of the Russian Federation.
