This day was also called Sour Girls in the old days – due to the fact that girls who did not have time to get married began to feel sad, because they knew that they would hardly be able to change their status until the end of spring: to Krasnaya Gorka, which this year falls on 23 April, weddings were not scheduled, and if the girl was not yet betrothed, then she had to wait even longer for marriage.

To attract the groom, on Polikarpov’s day, girls baked pies from sour dough.
