Folk signs: January 24 – the bird will bring good news

January 24 in the folk calendar – Fedoseev day, or Fedosey Vesnyak. According to the weather that day, they judged when spring would come.

The thaw on Fedoseyev’s day meant that spring would be early, warm and rainy. If the weather was gloomy and cloudy, it was believed that March would be the same. If the day turned out to be frosty, then the beginning of spring was expected to be cold.

It was usually cold that day, and the stoves were hot in the houses. In the villages they often gathered for gatherings. At the same time, women were engaged in needlework, and young people entertained them with stories. They arranged tea parties – always with honey and jam, to protect against diseases.

They put on a fur coat or a sheepskin coat outside – it was believed that clothes with fur would not only protect from the cold, but also scare away evil forces and ailments.

According to popular beliefs, on Fedoseyev’s day one should not start eating new bread, so as not to become a victim of deception. And from the already started loaf, pieces need to be broken off, and not cut off. And in general, if possible, it is better not to use sharp objects – there is a high probability of injury.

Today is not the best day to move into a new apartment and enter a new job – there is a belief that nothing good will come of this.

There are other prohibitions for Fedoseev Day. So, you can’t go on a long journey – so as not to get lost and not to freeze; you can’t argue and swear – to problems at home or at work; you can’t brag – the pip will jump on the tongue; you can’t lend money – the next few months will become penniless; you can not let someone else’s cat into the house – it can bring illness and trouble.

Folk signs on January 24 are as follows:

– if the frost hit – the cold will drag on;

– if the day is abnormally warm, with a drop, it will soon get colder, and for a long time;

– if the clouds float against the wind – to the snowfall;

– if it snows in the morning, frost will hit in the evening;

– if the bird knocked on the window – good news.

Dreams that occurred on the night of January 25 may be prophetic. Especially if they are pleasant, bright, clear and with the participation of people you know in reality. Such dreams usually come true within a month.
