Folk omens April 13: count money – do not know poverty

April 13 in the folk calendar is Fire, and also this year among Orthodox Christians is Maundy Thursday or Maundy Thursday.

In ancient times, it was customary to burn old things, as well as branches and last year’s foliage, on Ognishche. It was believed that fire and smoke on this day have a special power. The tillers carried their tools through the fire – it was believed that after that the sowing work would be successful. Sick people were also taken around the fire, they believed that the power of fire and smoke would help them recover.

For believers, today is the last day before Easter, when you can put yourself and your house in order. It is impossible to clean up after Maundy Thursday and three days after Easter, of course, if we are not talking about the necessary cleaning – when something got dirty during this time, spilled, woke up and so on.

Since, according to popular beliefs, on Maundy Thursday water has almost the same properties as on Epiphany, it is customary to go to the bathhouse on this day or simply wash completely. It is believed that on this day water not only washes away dirt from a person, but also cleanses thoughts and soul.

If something is wrong in the house: as if dishes were beating by themselves, things were disappearing, household members were hitting or stumbling, perhaps these were the intrigues of the brownie and kikimora. To calm them down, treats were left for them in a secluded corner.

According to popular beliefs, the day is good to count your savings. There is a belief that then the year will pass without need. But if you lend or borrow money, you will have to spend the whole year in debt.

Spouses who want to maintain a strong relationship should definitely sleep in the same bed that night. Otherwise, they face a serious conflict, separation or parting.

Folk signs on April 13 are as follows:

– if translucent clouds float across the sky – the weather will be calm, but rainy;

– if it rains in the morning – by a rainy summer;

– if lightning is visible, but no thunder is heard – by a dry summer;

– if the day is warm and sunny – to prolonged warming;

– if the air has become crystal clear – to frost.
