Folk calendar: October 2 – taste the honey

October 2 in Russia began to celebrate the bee nine. From that day on, the beekeepers began to prepare the hives for the winter. All work was to be completed by October 10th. Even at this time, they always ate honey in the morning, washed down with warm water, and in the evening they cooked pancakes, which were especially tasty if they were dipped in fragrant freshly picked honey.

In the morning, a spoonful of honey had to be eaten on an empty stomach – it was believed that this would protect against all diseases. And honey, dissolved in water, was taken in the morning and evening to get rid of abdominal pain, nausea and heartburn. Such a simple recipe helped with insomnia.

Young people, especially girls, were looking forward to October 2 with great impatience. Indeed, on this day, the so-called Trofimov evenings were arranged, at which the young men chose their brides, and the girls looked closely at the grooms. By the way, there was such a belief: if on this day you look closely into the eyes of the chosen one, he will certainly respond to your feelings. Well, today it is easy to check.

But it was impossible to engage in love spells and other magic on October 2. It was believed that on this day it was not only useless to perform any rituals, but also dangerous – you could incur trouble.

It is impossible to offend animals on this day – both domestic and wild. So even if your cat made a mess in the house, and the dog ate his favorite shoes – do not scold them. And if you didn’t restrain yourself, you must definitely apologize so as not to attract illness to yourself.

It was also believed that if you count a trifle on this day, then you won’t get big money. And if you use sharp objects, there is a high risk of injury.
