Fishermen are rescued from drifting ice floes on Lake Baikal – Kommersant

In the waters of the southern part of Lake Baikal in the territory of Buryatia, an operation is underway to rescue fishermen who were carried away on broken ice floes. As Kommersant was told by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Buryatia, two similar incidents occurred on January 12 in the afternoon.
“First, near the village of Vydrino, an ice floe with five fishermen broke off, and they were carried away 400 meters from the shore. Then, near the village of Tankhoi, another ice floe with two fishermen broke off. People were able to independently contact rescue services,” the department clarifies.
Employees of two divisions of the Baikal search and rescue team went to the incident area. The fishermen will be evacuated using hovercraft. How clarifies The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Irkutsk Region, a total of 12 rescuers and 6 units of equipment were involved in the operation.
