Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin summed up the results of voting on the Active Citizen portal on the format for celebrating the New Year. For two and a half days, about 300 thousand people expressed their opinion, the mayor summed up the results of the vote. “During the entire voting, more than 80% of the participants supported the holding of New Year events and the festive decoration of the city. At the same time, 29% spoke in favor of the usual format of the celebration, and 52% suggested this time to refrain from mass street concerts,” Sergei Sobyanin said, adding that this choice would be implemented.
“We dedicate the meeting of the New Year, 2023, to our soldiers and people who work tirelessly in the defense industry, build defensive structures, and restore destroyed houses,” the mayor said.
Children of mobilized citizens, as well as those who came from the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions will be invited to the Mayor’s Tree and other festive events. All revenues of the Moscow budget from holding festive performances, as well as, by agreement, part of the profits of the business will be directed to support the military, their families and the restoration of the affected areas, Sergei Sobyanin also said.
According to Kommersant’s estimates, every third constituent entity of the Russian Federation has already decided to save money on New Year’s holidays in one form or another due to a special military operation and partial mobilization. We are talking about the rejection of concerts, fireworks and festivities in order to help the fighters and their families. Such statements were made, for example, by officials in the Pskov, Samara, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov, Novosibirsk, Amur, Belgorod, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk and Saratov regions.
