Finland will not ban Russian cars from entering the country

Finland did not implement the EU recommendation prohibiting Russians from entering the country in cars registered in the Russian Federation. About it reported Finnish broadcasting company Yle with reference to the Finnish Foreign Ministry.
“Cars with Russian license plates can still enter Finland. If another decision is made, we will announce it in advance,” Yle quotes the head of the sanctions department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pia Sarivaara, as saying.
Lithuanian authorities, on the contrary, said that they could confiscate cars registered in Russia.
“Anyone who crosses the border, whether a Russian citizen or an EU citizen, with plates registered in Russia, if he does not have documents confirming that he is in transit to Kaliningrad, he should know that his car will be confiscated,” said the country’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Jovita Neliupšėne in an interview with LRT radio.
She added that Russians can now cross the border “only if they have the right to do so” – either by bus or on foot.
Earlier, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic, Agne Bilotaite, referring to the clarification on the import of Russian vehicles into EU countries, said that cars registered in the Russian Federation should be confiscated, since this is the “function” of the country’s customs authorities.
On September 8, the European Commission published an explanation on the import of Russian vehicles into the EU countries, according to which Russian vehicles, regardless of whether they are used for private or commercial purposes, may be seized. After this, the Russian embassy in Finland recommended refuse to visit the country in cars with Russian license plates.
