Finland is not going to join NATO before Sweden and intends to wait until Stockholm’s application is approved. This was stated by Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto before the start of the People and Defense conference. His words are reported by the Aftonbladet newspaper.
“Finland does not seek to join NATO as soon as possible, so we can wait until Sweden receives the appropriate signal,” he said.
The Minister believes that Finland and Sweden will complete the process of joining NATO at the same time.
Applications for the accession of Sweden and Finland have now been ratified by 28 of the 30 members of the alliance. Only Hungary and Turkey did not.
