The International Football Federation (FIFA) has warned the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) about the possible suspension of the country’s national team and football clubs from participation in international competitions. Restrictions will be introduced if the CBF does not wait for the appointment of a new president of the organization and holds independent elections in January. This was stated in a letter from FIFA, which the agency received Associated Press (AP).
A Rio de Janeiro court, according to the AP, removed confederation President Ednaldo Rodriguez on December 7 due to possible interference in the elections of the head of the CBF in March 2022. The FIFA Charter prohibits states and third parties from participating in the activities of national football organizations.
If elections are held, the CBF will be suspended until all disputes are resolved. By January 8, FIFA will form a special commission on the issue of the President of the Brazilian Confederation.
