FIFA threatened to suspend Brazil from tournaments if it interfered in the election of the head of the CBF

The International Football Federation (FIFA) has warned Brazil of suspension from tournaments if it interferes in the election of the head of the Brazilian Confederation of Football (CBF).

Thus, FIFA said that the country could be suspended if the CBF holds quick elections to replace Ednaldo Rodriguez as the confederation. He was suspended by court decision due to violations committed in the 2022 elections. This ruling was confirmed by two of Brazil’s highest courts.

Jose Perdis was appointed acting head of the Brazilian Football Confederation. He was also given the authority to be responsible for the election of the new president of the CBF, which must take place within thirty working days.

In its letters, FIFA stated that it considered this interference to be unjustified. The International Football Federation and the South American Football Confederation said they would form a commission to discuss the issue on January 8.

It is also noted that if the CBF is suspended, it will lose all its membership rights until FIFA lifts the suspension.

“This will also mean that representative and club teams will not be eligible to take part in international competitions while she is suspended,” the document says.

José Pedriz, reacting to the letter, said he would “call for elections to be held on time, with the transparency and integrity required.”

Earlier, FIFA published part of the list of teams that will play in the Club World Cup in 2025.

It is known that UEFA will be represented at the tournament by: Bayern, PSG, Inter, Porto, Benfica, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester City and the team that will win the Champions League in the 2023 season /24. Also participating in the competition: Al-Ahly (Egypt), Wydad (Morocco), Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia), Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan), Monterrey (Mexico), Seattle Sounders “(USA), “Leon” (Mexico), “Auckland City” (New Zealand), “Palmeiras”, “Flamengo” and “Fluminense” (all – Brazil).
