FIDE reacted to Duda’s refusal to shake hands with Karyakin’s coach Khismatullin

The FIDE Ethics Commission said it could impose sanctions on Polish grandmaster Jan-Krzysztof Duda, who did not shake hands with Russian chess player Denis Khismatullin, who coaches Sergei Karjakin.

The commission, as an independent body, can impose sanctions if the opponent demands it, FIDE said, adding that no corresponding statements have been received from Khismatullin.

Refusal to shake hands does not automatically result in defeat, the International Chess Federation said.
