It’s time for the year’s results. The stylistic decisions made by designers, editors, stylists and even directors deserve special attention – this year, films and TV series influenced fashion trends almost more than fashion shows. We select the five main trends that have captured fashion minds this year.
Barbie pink
One of the main trends of 2023 was associated with the premiere of a film about the most famous doll – Barbie. Even at the production stage of the painting, Barbie pink entered the collections of designers. The popularity of the color was so high that at some point the world began to run out of pink paint. Outerwear, knitwear, dresses and accessories in hot pink were an absolutely win-win solution for any party this year.
Quiet luxury
At the beginning of the year, everyone paid attention to Quiet Luxury or quiet luxury. Expensive items made from premium materials, vintage bags and accessories in muted colors were especially popular in the first half of 2023. The popularity of this trend was largely influenced by the series “Descendants,” which became an example of this style. No logos or flashy colors, only discreet (and high-quality) clothes, like those worn by residents of Manhattan penthouses.
2000s
If in past seasons the catwalks and street style were obsessed with the aesthetics of the 1990s, then this year it was replaced by the bright 2000s. The main accents in this trend were wide jeans made of light denim, crop tops, platform shoes and rhinestones. Style elements typical of young Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian have returned to mainstream fashion in 2023.
Black coat
A universal item of clothing that is unlikely to ever go out of style. The oversized black coat has become one of the main characters of catwalk shows, both in spring-summer and winter shows. This is understandable – you can combine such a coat with both formal and relaxed style. One of those things about which we can safely say: this is not a purchase, but an investment.
Grunge
The 1990s, although no longer dominant in terms of trends, still have an influence on fashion decisions. In 2023, this was reflected through the grunge aesthetic. Plaid flannel shirts, oversized jeans, and heavy boots have become the uniform for those who are not ready to make a choice in the direction of the bright 2000s. In general, the images of the lead singers of Nirvana, Alice in Chains and other grunge mastodons have become a universal inspiration for fashionistas and fashionistas around the world.
