Famous Soviet investigator Vladimir Kalinichenko dies

At the age of 74, the senior investigator for especially important cases under the USSR Prosecutor General Vladimir Kalinichenko died. He died just a week before his 75th birthday.
State Duma Deputy Alexander Khinshtein Telegramchannel expressed his condolences to the family and friends of Kalinichenko. He himself noted that he knew Vladimir Ivanovich well.
“He was a very clean and “piece” person, a real example of what an honest investigator should be,” the parliamentarian said.
According to Khinshtein, Kalinichenko was investigating the “cotton”, “Kazakh” and “Sochi-Krasnodar” cases. And the famous investigator also uncovered the murder of the deputy head of the secretariat of the KGB of the USSR, major of state security Vyacheslav Afanasyev on Zhdanovskaya.
The “cotton” case was connected with a series of economic and corruption abuses revealed in the Uzbek SSR. The investigation was carried out in the late 1970s and 1980s. 800 criminal cases were initiated. More than four thousand people were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment.
The “Sochi-Krasnodar” case was investigated in the early 1980s. It was associated with corruption and abuse on the Black Sea coast of the Krasnodar Territory.
