Falkov: from 2024, the Russian language exam for admission to engineering specialties will become optional

The Ministry of Education and Science plans to admit students to engineering universities from 2024 only based on the results of exams in mathematics, physics and computer science. The Russian language exam will become “additional”.
“The systemic measure that we want to introduce from 2024 is quite revolutionary for universities: we want to enroll in engineering specialties and directions only in mathematics, physics and computer science, and consider the Russian language as an additional one,” said the head of the Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov at a meeting on training for the aviation industry (quote from RIA Novosti).
He stressed that the ministry “does not discard” the Russian language as an examination discipline, but intends to reduce the emphasis on it.
Today Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev declaredthat over the past 15 years the number of students of the Rybinsk State Aviation Technical University has decreased by 5 times. In his opinion, this is due to the “short-sighted policy” of reducing admission targets.
