The autumn part of the football season in the MIR Russian Premier League has ended. For the first time in 21 years, Fakel Voronezh was among the elite of domestic football. After 17 rounds, the “flammable” became the most peaceful team in the league, drawing 10 times with their rivals and scoring 13 points. The correspondent of “MK in Voronezh” recalls the home meetings of the “insolent people from Voronezh” – a team that, from the first round of their stay in the RPL, truly fell in love with the whole country.

The fans were looking forward to the first home game of Fakel in the RPL in more than two decades. Subscriptions and tickets for this meeting sold like hot cakes. And on the day of the game, the weather was similar – the thermometer to the starting whistle showed more than 30 degrees. However, this did not prevent the Voronezh residents from showing enchanting football, and the fans also enthusiastically supported their favorite club for an hour and a half. Having won back twice during the match, Fakel was able to please the local audience by pulling out a draw five minutes before the final whistle – 3:3, confirming the nickname “Insolent people from Voronezh”.

After the enchanting home start of the season with Dynamo, many fans were waiting for the continuation of the “goal banquet” in the match with the outsider of the tournament from Yekaterinburg. However, for the whole game, despite the abundance of dangerous moments, it was not possible to print out the possessions of the Urals “flammable” – 0:0. By the way, this duel remained the only one in which the spectators of the Central Stadium of Trade Unions did not see a goal scored by both teams.

The meeting with the “red-whites” caused an unprecedented stir in Voronezh. Tickets for this game were sold exclusively at the stadium box office, where people lined up at night. On the day of the match, only the lazy did not ask for an extra ticket, the price from resellers reached the “cosmic” 5 thousand rubles, and all visiting guests were met by a police escort accompanying the fans to the stadium. People from different parts of Russia came to see Spartak. And many had to meet the first goal of the home team in the queue for the entrance. The central stadium of the trade unions was overcrowded – in eight home games the duel with Spartak gathered the maximum audience – 20 thousand people! Unfortunately, the Voronezh team did not play well in defense that evening, and the defeat with a score of 1:4 was the only home game for Torch in the entire autumn season of the championship.

After the departure of Oleg Vasilenko, Dmitry Pyatibratov became the acting head coach. And the very first match under his leadership turned out to be victorious for the Voronezh team. The capital’s Lokomotiv arrived in the capital of the Chernozem region in not the best condition and naturally was defeated with a score of 0: 2, and 19 thousand Voronezh fans for the first time in 21 years saw the victory of their favorite team in the elite of Russian football.

In a duel against a newcomer to the RPL, Voronezh was the first to miss – at the end of half an hour of the game, 39-year-old striker Igor Lebedenko scored, becoming the oldest player to score in the elite division. However, Fakel failed to win a second victory in the season – in the middle of the second half, Avtozavodtsy restored parity on the scoreboard – 2:2. Even the weather favored the visit of the players from St. Petersburg – it was clear and warm in Voronezh on the day of the game. Zenit came to Voronezh for the first time in more than 20 years. Trump “Torch” in the RPL – standards. So in the match with the national champion, the Voronezh team scored an early goal, converting a corner already in the 12th minute. An accurate strike by forward Georgy Gongadze brought the Voronezh public into ecstasy. All that the guests managed to do in the remaining time was to level the score in one of the attacks. “Fakel” has taught its native audience that at home it is sure to score first and not lose. However, the meeting with the wards of Valery Karpin was close to destroying this axiom. In addition, the referee of the meeting Pavel Shadykhanov became the 12th player of Rostov, whose actions could not be interpreted even by the head coaches of the playing teams. Having spent most of the match in the minority, the “flammable” at first missed a counterattack in the opening of the second half, but then they managed to get a draw for themselves on the 95th (!) minute, when, after watching the video, the judges saw a handball from the southerners, and Georgy Gongadze calmly converted a penalty – 1:1.

The final home match for the Voronezh team was the same as the first. Despite the rainy and windy weather, the teams were able to warm up and heat up the audience to the limit. Having opened the scoring in the debut of the meeting, the “flammable” conceded three goals in a row and were close to a crushing defeat. However, Ilya Svinov’s penalty shot was inspired by Fakel, which in the last quarter of an hour, with Irakli Kvekveskiri’s radio-controlled strikes, managed to get away from defeat to the delight of an army of thousands of devoted fans – 3:3.
