Chaenomeles overtook blackcurrant

Unexpected conclusions were made by specialists from the Michurin Scientific Center. It turns out that the little-known chaenomeles is the champion in the content of vitamin C among horticultural crops. This was shown by a study on the content of a number of substances in berry crops growing in Central Russia.

As you know, the physiological need for vitamin C for adults is 90 mg per day. The required level of consumption of anthocyanins (they are strong antioxidants, neutralize the action of free radicals, inhibit the growth of tumors) is 50–150 mg per day. The physiological need for carotenoids (vitamin A synthesizer) is 5 mg per day.

And now the results. Chaenomeles, a culture also called “Japanese quince”, became the champion in the content of vitamin C. Next comes black currant: 100 grams of this berry per day is more than enough to cover the needs for this vitamin.

The anthocyanin champion is irga, 50 grams of a berry is enough to provide the daily allowance. So far, this culture is not so common in our country, or birds have time to eat it faster. After irgi – again blackcurrant.

According to carotenoids, the champion is golden currant. But it must be eaten 300 gr. for the norm. It is also not yet a very popular culture in our gardens.
