Not all gynecologists agree with this
The Russian Ministry of Health plans to update the procedure for preventive medical examination of minors. The document published on the portal of draft regulatory legal acts indicates that the change will only affect the first medical examination of girls by an obstetrician-gynecologist.
The procedure defines all types and stages of medical examination of citizens who have not reached 18 years of age, as well as the age at which it should be carried out. The main purpose of the examination is to identify various pathologies in the early stages and prevent their development.
The same applies to examination by a gynecologist. Currently, a medical examination by a gynecologist should be performed at 14 years of age. The document provides for changing the age at which the first examination should be carried out to 13 years. The explanation to the document states that the examination is needed for the early detection of reproductive health diseases in adolescents.
However, not all gynecologists agree with the point of view of the Ministry of Health. Many doctors believe that it is not advisable to conduct examinations before a girl or young woman becomes sexually active. In other cases, the examination is intended only for obvious health problems. Indications: menstrual irregularities, weight problems (both exceeding and decreasing the norm), itching and burning, vaginal discharge. And if examinations are carried out simply according to plan, especially without parental permission, then this will only cause discontent in society and additional costs from the state budget. And as a bonus, there is a negative attitude towards the doctors who will be required to carry out the procedure.
