Ex-directors of the Ural branch of RANEPA may be deprived of their academic degrees

The former director of the Ural branch of RANEPA, Dmitry Repin, may be deprived of his academic degree as a candidate of sociological sciences. This decision is given to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation recommended accept the dissertation council created at the Tyumen Industrial University. The department also asks that the diploma of Candidate of Sociological Sciences issued to Mr. Repin be invalidated.
An application to deprive Dmitry Repin of his academic degree was filed by Professor Andrei Rostovtsev, co-founder of the Dissernet project. It stated that he had unlawfully borrowed parts of other people’s works when writing his dissertation research. The dissertation council confirmed that on 172 pages of Dmitry Repin’s dissertation, illegal borrowings were identified on 30 of them.
The supposed source of such borrowings is the report of Zemlyanukhina S.A., the article of Shashkova S.N., the report of Poddubetskaya A.Yu., Nazarova M.N. In addition, checking the text of the dissertation in the Anti-Plagiarism system showed the presence in the text of multiple hidden characters in fragments of the dissertation.
“To recommend that the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation deprive Repin (Savchuk) Dmitry Aleksandrovich of the academic degree of Candidate of Sociological Sciences,” the conclusion says. 18 council members voted for this. There were no abstentions or votes against.
Mr. Repin took up the post of Director of the RANEPA Institute of Public Administration in August 2018. In November 2019, he moved to the position of adviser to the rector of the academy. The RANEPA website states that he now works at the Institute of Management and Regional Development.
