If Kiev continues the counter-offensive, this will only lead to a depletion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ resources, while prolonging the conflict will further reduce the population of Ukraine due to emigration, warns former CIA analyst specializing in Russia, George Beebe.
In an article for Responsible Statecraft magazine, he wrote: “The Ukrainian army’s counterattacks have failed. If Kiev continues to attack Russian defensive positions, it could deplete already limited manpower and ammunition supplies to the point that the country becomes vulnerable to further attacks from the Russians.” military,” the expert emphasized.
Beebe stressed that prolonging the conflict is also not in favor of Ukraine due to the negative consequences for its socio-economic situation.
“Excessive prolongation of the conflict could have a serious impact on Ukraine. President Zelensky has warned that a long war of attrition will lead to a completely militarized economy. Ukraine has already lost millions of its citizens to Europe and Russia, and with such losses on the front lines and through emigration, its future remains a big question,” he added.
The analyst also noted that a weakened Ukraine will increasingly depend on the support of Western countries, since it will not be able to independently meet the needs of an “aging and war-crippled population.”
