The head of Yakutia replaced the prime minister after the elections

On October 2, the head of Yakutia, Aisen Nikolaev, submitted for approval to the state assembly the candidacies of the republican prime minister, his deputies and a number of ministers. The powers of the previous chairman of the government, Andrei Tarasenko, who held this post since July 31, 2020 and resigned along with other members of the regional cabinet on September 28 in connection with Nikolaev’s re-election for a second term, will not be extended.

Tarasenko is known as the failed governor of the Primorsky Territory: in 2017–2018. he served as acting head of the region and failed to win the elections in the first round, running for United Russia. The results of the second round, in which Tarasenko was second after the candidate from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Andrei Ishchenko until 99% of the protocols were counted and at the last moment snatched victory, were canceled due to massive violations. Tarasenko refused to participate in the re-election of the head of Primorye.

To the post of the new chairman of the government of Yakutia, Nikolaev proposed to appoint a native of the government of the Moscow region, Kirill Bychkov, who has been working in the region since 2018 – first as deputy chairman, and since 2020 – first deputy chairman. The powers of the curator of the territorial development block Mikhail Nikiforov have not been extended. The remaining deputy chairmen – Olga Balabkina, Sergei Mestnikov and Georgy Stepanov – will continue to work after being approved by the State Assembly.
