In Yekaterinburg, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko and the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region assessed the readiness of the key facilities of the International University Sports Festival (IFUS). About 3 thousand athletes from 36 countries of the world take part in the competition.
One of the priority areas in preparation for the IFAS is heritage. Dormitories for 8.5 thousand places, where athletes are accommodated, will be transferred to the management of UrFU in September 2023 as the first stage of a world-class campus.
“In preparation for the Festival, sports facilities were built and reconstructed, 10 billion rubles were allocated from the federal budget for these purposes,” Dmitry Chernyshenko said. “All of them will become the legacy of the Festival and will allow holding international and all-Russian competitions in Yekaterinburg.”
Governor Evgeny Kuyvashev noted that the campus is only part of the heritage that remains of the Sverdlovsk region after the International University Sports Festival.
“We really strive to attract such large-scale events to the region, because we see them as an investment in the future of the Urals,” said Evgeny Kuyvashev. – And, of course, you know – one of the key areas is always the legacy regime. It was the same with the World Cup and other major events.”
The head of the region noted that the federal government is implementing a program to create world-class campuses. UrFU gets the opportunity to use modern sports infrastructure.
“Holding the Festival has a long-term effect for young residents of the region, for attracting the Urals to sports,” emphasized Evgeny Kuyvashev. – We hope that the Festival will also give impetus to the development of university sports in the region. And, in the end, the Festival is a big, bright, memorable holiday.”
The head of the region emphasized that the authorities of the Sverdlovsk region are focused on ensuring that the guests of the region have the warmest memories of the Urals. After all, each of them will become the ambassador of the Sverdlovsk region in their country or region.
