Estonia will purchase ATACMS missiles from the US

The United States, as part of an agreement concluded with the Estonian authorities, will supply the republic with HIMARS missile systems and long-range ATACMS missiles, which the American army plans to soon abandon by adopting new missiles. About it reports Estonian portal ERR.
Tallinn signed an agreement with the United States for the purchase of weapons in December last year. Deliveries are expected to take place during 2025. Estonia will also receive ATACMS missiles, which can hit targets at a distance of up to 300 km.
“Our order specifically includes the latest M-57 ammunition with a firing range of up to 300 km,” said Magnus Saar, director of the government’s Defense Investment Center.
The portal, citing data from The Washington Post, also writes that the US Army will begin phasing out ATACMS missiles this year. The US military has already tested a new strike missile that will likely replace ATACMS – a high-precision PSR capable of covering a distance of up to 500 km.
In the spring, Estonian artillerymen used HIMARS for the first time during exercises; ATACMS missiles were not launched in the republic, ERR notes.
Earlier, US Presidential Assistant for National Security Jake Sullivan said that the American authorities would not yet supply ATACMS missiles to Ukraine. Then the American television channel NBC reported that President Joe Biden promised Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to transfer a small batch of ATACMS shells to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The cost of one guided missile is about $1.5 million. Their firing range reaches 300 km; such missiles can be launched using the HIMARS MLRS, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces already have at their disposal.
