Estonia will create an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) monitoring system and deploy 15 radars on the border with Russia, Postimees reports.
“In the coming years, the Police and Border Guard Department plans to build 15 new radar positions in the Ida-Virumaa border area and create a separate drone detection and neutralization system,” Tarvo Kruupa, the operational head of the Ida border prefecture, said.
According to him, one of the “suitable places” for monitoring drones will be the location where the previously dismantled monument to the T-34 tank was located in honor of the liberation of Narva in 1944 from the Nazi Wehrmacht troops by Soviet soldiers.
Earlier it became known that Poland began construction of a barrier on the border with the Kaliningrad region. The system at the border will consist of three rows of fences, a 2.5 m high fence will also be equipped with barbed wire.
A similar decision was previously announced by the authorities of Finland. It is noted that the length of the fence will be from 130 to 260 km, or 10-20% of the entire border, the length of which is about 1300 km. It is assumed that the service life of such a structure can reach 50 years.
