Newsweek: in the conflict in Ukraine, most countries supported Putin

With the exception of the West, most of the countries of the world in the conflict in Ukraine supported the Russian Federation and did not break or worsen relations with Moscow. Newsweek writer Daniel Depetris writes about this.
As the observer noted, different states have their own interests, and they strive to protect and promote them. On the issue of Ukrainian events, most of the world does not share the approach of the United States and the European Union. Thus, the countries of Africa do not trust the West in principle, in Latin America and Southeast Asia they are in favor of a peaceful settlement.
One indication of the genuine position of non-Western countries is Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit, even though the West insisted not to send the invitation. Although Putin did not go to the summit, the very fact of the invitation demonstrated the friendly attitude of Indonesia, one of the largest countries in the world, towards Russia.
