Estonia allowed entry to buses and motorcycles with Russian license plates

The ban on cars with Russian license plates entering Estonia does not apply to buses, motorcycles and vehicles with diplomatic license plates. This was announced by the head of the country’s Tax and Customs Department, Ants Kutti.
Kutty clarified that the ban will not apply to vehicles with ten or more passenger seats, as well as buses operating on the line, cars with diplomatic license plates and motorcycles. They will be able to cross the Estonian border. Kutti clarified that in isolated cases, exceptions can be made for a fire truck with a crane.
“These restrictions apply to both individuals and legal entities, that is, the ownership of the vehicle in this sense does not matter,” Kutti said (quoted by ERR), clarifying that the ban applies to cars with a capacity of up to nine passengers. According to the agency, approximately 400 Russian cars cross the border between Estonia and Russia per month.
Federal Customs Service (FCS) reported about one case when the Estonian side returned one car with Russian license plates. According to the department, the car was driven by a citizen of Russia and Lithuania. Upon entering the Narva-1 checkpoint, Estonian customs officers informed him that the import of this category of cars was prohibited.
The service explained that the departure of cars with Russian license plates from Estonia is proceeding as usual. In turn, on the Russian side there were no changes in the procedure for passing cars with license plates of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
Estonia has banned entry for cars with Russian license plates from 10:00 (the time coincides with Moscow time) on September 13, reported the country’s Minister of Internal Affairs Lauri Läänemets. Tallinn acts in accordance with the clarifications of the European Commission, according to which the import of cars with Russian license plates into the EU is prohibited. Vehicles can be seized regardless of whether they are used for private or commercial purposes. In addition to cars, the list of restrictions includes laptops, smartphones, cosmetics, etc.
