Turkey has been a NATO member since 1952 and has the alliance’s second largest army. On July 11, Erdogan agreed to Sweden’s accession to NATO. The country applied for membership in the North Atlantic Alliance in May 2022, but Turkey has not ratified its entry into NATO until recently.
Such agreements were reached during a meeting between Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Erdogan under the patronage of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on July 10.
