Erdogan to submit proposal to parliament to amend Turkey’s constitution

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan intends to submit a proposal to the parliament to amend the constitution. This was stated by the president himself in his address after the first meeting of the renewed government.
“We will keep all the promises made to our people. We will be the executors of these two words – stability and trust. We will build the Turkish Age with stability and confidence. <...> We will present our proposal for constitutional amendments to the Parliament,” said the President (quote by CNN Turk).
Erdogan has already initiated changes to the country’s constitution. In 2017, following the results of a referendum, the relevant amendments were adopted and the republic changed its form of government from parliamentary to presidential. Türkiye officially changed its form of government in 2018 after Erdogan’s re-election.
On June 1, the Turkish Central Election Commission summed up the final results of the presidential elections, according to which the incumbent President Erdogan won 52.18% of the vote, and his rival Kemal Kilicdaroglu – 47.82%. Elections in Turkey were held in two rounds. It was decided to organize a second round after none of the candidates on May 14 passed the mark of 50% of the votes required to win in the first round. On June 3, Erdogan took the oath in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (parliament).
The first major change since his re-assuming office was the renewal of the cabinet. Erdogan replaced almost the entire composition of the government, including the heads of key departments. The Foreign Ministry was headed by intelligence chief Hakan Fidan, the defense ministry was headed by General Yashar Güler, who served as chief of the General Staff, and the Istanbul governor, Ali Yerlikaya, became head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Mehmet Simsek became the Minister of Finance and Treasury of Turkey.
Erdogan took over as president in 2014 and was later re-elected in 2018. His term is due to end in 2028.
