On August 12, Velsk will host the Pride of Pomorie equestrian competition. The Khoroshevsky Horse Breeding Complex, where competitions are held at the hippodrome, is one of the few breeding farms in our country for breeding Oryol trotters. It is included in the Russian system of selection and breeding work, and participation in competitions allows you to identify the best breeding horses of the Oryol trotting breed for their further breeding.
The history of this breed dates back almost 2.5 centuries – during the time of Catherine the Second, it was brought out by Count Orlov, which is why the breed got its name. The main task that the horse breeder faced was to create not only a strong and beautiful, but also a frisky and hardy domestic breed of horses. And he succeeded.
Count Orlov’s horses were able to move well at a trot – this is one of the types of gait, which is considered the most energy-saving and at the same time fast, in contrast to the “economical”, but slow walk, or a fast canter, in which horses get tired faster.
Spectators of the VIII Velsky equestrian competitions on August 12 will be able to appreciate the beauty and agility of trotting horses. The event will begin with a grand opening ceremony and a parade of participants at 11:00.
