General practitioner Elena Malysheva and cardiologist German Gandelman clarified on the air of the program “Live healthy!” myth about the benefits of dried fruits.
According to Malysheva, there is a misconception among Russians that dried fruits are healthier than fresh fruits, but fresh fruits have significantly fewer calories. For example, a fresh apple contains nearly five times fewer calories than a dried one.
In turn, Herman Gandelman added that fresh fruits contain an order of magnitude more vitamins. So, vitamin C breaks down when dried at a temperature of more than 60 degrees.
Dried fruits, just like fresh fruits, contain anthocyanins – these are substances that prevent the development of cancer, atherosclerosis and diabetes. However, dried fruits retain 60% less anthocyanins.
In addition, fresh fruits are also rich in pectins: they remove harmful substances such as toxins and cholesterol, and also normalize stools.
