Education campaign against breast cancer starts in Russia

World Breast Cancer Day is celebrated on October 15th. Statistics from the World Health Organization says: this disease is one of the most common cancers. Every eighth woman in the world suffers from it. In Russia, 70 thousand cases are detected annually, 75% are diagnosed in women over 50 years old.
“Oncologists recommend that everyone over 40 should have a mammogram once every two years. Through screening, we can detect breast cancer at its earliest stages. The probability of cure in this case exceeds 95%,” said Alexander Petrovsky, Deputy Director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Blokhin Oncology Research Center of the Russian Ministry of Health.
In October, ANO “National Priorities” and the Ministry of Health of Russia, under the auspices of the national project “Health”, organized a number of events that are designed, first of all, to teach girls to independently conduct breast self-examination. The materials will be published in the media, on television and on the Internet. And for a whole month, master classes will be conducted by medical volunteers.
“The objective of the campaign is not only to draw attention to the problem, but also to provide women with a simple and understandable tool for regular self-diagnosis. A few simple steps will help to detect the disease at an early stage, and timely treatment leads to recovery in 90% of cases,” summed up Sofia Malyavina, General Director of the ANO National Priorities.
