Edgard Zapashny explained what to do with tigers that have captured Khabarovsk villages

“They are most likely to become serial killers”

The situation in the Khabarovsk Territory, where residents of several villages actually became hostages of the Amur tigers, it’s not just the authorities who are concerned. The famous trainer, People’s Artist of Russia Edgard Zapashny outlined his vision of the MK situation.

– It is obvious that animals in nature are not in a state of happiness, as many people imagine. Nature is very harsh. There are many aspects here – human activity, a changing climate and the predominance of some animal species over others. If wild animals come out to humans and begin to act precisely in human-controlled territory, this means that animals in the wild are experiencing very serious problems.

As a rule, in winter there is an insufficient food supply, which does not allow animals to exist peacefully today. If tigers come out to a person, then things are really bad for them… Having once tried and achieved success in catching livestock or pets (dogs, cats, chickens, etc.), he will come to the village constantly. And it is too likely that someday he will try his power on a person. An animal that once kills a person not only automatically becomes a cannibal, but most likely will become a serial killer, because it is clearly imprinted in his head: livestock is easy prey, and humans do not pose a threat. A battle with any other animal in nature that a tiger is capable of killing (elk, deer, wild boar) is always a fight, a struggle. And when choosing between an unprotected person and a deer armed with antlers, the tiger, of course, will choose a person or livestock.

There is a really serious problem with tigers in the Khabarovsk Territory right now. I know that local authorities are already puzzled by her decision. The issue of capturing the three tigers has allegedly already been resolved. These are Amur tigers, listed in the Red Book, and it is impossible by law to simply shoot them; this carries very serious criminal liability. No one will violate the law here, but we need to act much more decisively and quickly, because if the animal has already become a killer, the authorities and responsible structures need to quickly resolve the issue and catch these tigers.

– How can people protect themselves from animals at the moment?

– If there is a high probability that a person may encounter a tiger, then one should try not to go outside, although this is not easy. It is necessary to have available means in case of self-defense. It could be something that could frighten the tiger – some large object, something that makes a loud sound (flare, horn, blank cartridge, etc.). Anything that can scare away the animal and scare it. And, of course, avoid any contact with animals.
