Early voting abroad for the Russian presidential elections will take place in 45 countries

Early voting abroad in the Russian presidential elections will be possible in 45 countries abroad at 67 polling stations, said Pavel Andreev, a member of the Central Election Commission. In 2018, there were 77 such countries. In most “unfriendly countries,” early voting will not take place “for security reasons.”

“From the point of view of early voting, those conditions for the safety of the commission and voters, of course, led to a reduction in the number of countries in which early voting will be organized. In 2018, such voting was organized in 77 countries, and this year – only in 45,” Mr. Andreev said at a meeting of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation (quoted from “RIA News”). The reduction in areas is explained by “certain actions” in relation to Russian diplomatic missions.

Early voting will be available for all voters at 12 polling stations in 11 countries, and for certain groups of voters – at 58 polling stations in 37 countries. Precinct election commissions will be sent to more than 125 settlements and places of residence and location of Russian voters. Their number is estimated at 150 thousand people. The need for early voting may be caused by the national characteristics of countries. For example, in Qatar and Oman, Sunday is not a day off.

Early voting in remote areas started in Russia on February 25. The main voting for the presidential election will take place from March 15 to 17. The Central Election Commission registered four candidates: self-nominated Vladimir Putin, Nikolai Kharitonov from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Leonid Slutsky from the Liberal Democratic Party and Vladislav Davankov from New People.
