Dvorkovich ruled out the holding of the match for the title of world chess champion in Russia

Due to the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), a match for the title of world chess champion cannot be held in Russia. About it TASS said the President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Arkady Dvorkovich.
Current world chess champion Magnus Carlsen refused from participating in the match for the world title due to lack of “motivation”. His opponent in it was to be the Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi, who won the Candidates Tournament. Instead of the Norwegian, the opponent of the Russian grandmaster will be the Chinese Ding Liren, who took second place in the tournament. According to the agency, the Russian Chess Federation offered to hold half of the match in Moscow, in the Tretyakov Gallery, and the second in China.
“In Russia, we cannot hold world championships on the recommendation of the IOC. We do not want to aggravate the situation in this part. And in this regard, China is not very fair. Therefore, we count on a neutral country,” Mr. Dvorkovich said. He added that FIDE is negotiating the venue for the final. The main contender is Mexico. The federation will make a decision within a month.
28 February IOC recommended international sports federations do not allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in international competitions. FIDE dismissed from participating in tournaments under their auspices the teams of Russia and Belarus. In the individual tournaments of the World Cup cycle, athletes from Russia and Belarus will be able to participate under the flag of the federation.
Arkady Dvorkovich has been FIDE President since 2018. In August he was re-elected. 157 delegates voted for Mr. Dvorkovich, and only 16 voted for his only rival, Ukrainian Andrei Barishpolets.
