Maria Chernova from Stavropol, a pupil of the regional complex Youth Sports School, became the first winner of the national championship in the history of Stavropol badminton, reports newspaper “Vecherniy Stavropol”.
The championship of Russia among athletes under 13 took place in Omsk. The participants of the tournament were badminton players from all over the country. The Stavropol athlete took silver in a pair with a badminton player from Moscow, Marina Tarasova, losing only a few points to the absolute winners of the tournament.
“Masha showed a very worthy result. She played excellently in singles and mixed doubles, losing just a little in the 1/8 finals, ”said the head coach of the regional badminton team Kristina Varfolomeeva.
According to her, in the women’s doubles category, the coaches counted on success, since the girls had a pair. “It was just a little short of gold,” the coach said. She noted that such a medal “became the first for the Stavropol badminton at the Championships and Championships of Russia.”
