Due to school certificates with errors, graduates lost the opportunity to enter

The unpleasant situation made parents and graduates of the 9th and 11th grades of the Novosibirsk Lyceum of Information Technologies panic: their certificates were printed with a spelling error. You can’t go anywhere with these certificates. It turned out that such a case is not isolated, and children often receive certificates either in bulk with one common typo or an error in their personal data. “MK” found out from experts what needs to be done so that such situations do not spoil the lives of graduates.

The name of the Novosibirsk educational institution in all 100 certificates issued on June 28 to 9th graders and 11th graders was printed with an error: “Lyceum of Information Technologies”. By the way, the content of the typo caused a flurry of indecent jokes among the inhabitants of the city and gave reason to slander. Like, why such lyceums …

Under the solemn photo of the issuance of certificates on the lyceum’s social network page on June 28, one of the graduate’s mothers wrote: “The documents were issued with a typo in the name of the educational institution and must be replaced as invalid!”

This unfortunate misunderstanding was revealed when one of the 9th graders went to apply to college. She was refused to accept documents, ordered to replace the certificate with the correct one and then come back to the selection committee. The same applies to 11th graders – they may not have time to submit a corrected certificate to the university.

It would seem that the typo is insignificant, but it is small only in the opinion of the unenlightened. Lawyers warn: since a typo was made in the name of the lyceum, it turns out that the guys graduated from a non-existent institution, and this makes their certificates really invalid.

Parents are in a panic that replacing all 100 certificates will take a lot of time, and their children will either be late with admission, or there will be confusion with the documents: the number of the first certificate issued will be in the system, and the second, correct option will be considered invalid.

Natalya Yaroslavtseva, director of the Novosibirsk Institute for Monitoring and Development of Education, added fuel to the fire of parental excitement, who publicly expressed her fear that “there may not be enough forms for everyone due to the large number of affected children.”

“I work for an organization that buys these forms for our schools,” one of the residents of Novosibirsk confirmed her words on the social network. – Their number is really limited. Ordered and paid for taking into account applications submitted by educational institutions. And taking into account the fact that forms are often spoiled, the stock may be completely used up. This means a new purchase. And suppliers do not have these forms available, they are printed specially for the order. So it really can take a long time!

It turned out that children often receive certificates also with typos in their personal data.

“Daughters today also issued a certificate for the 9th grade with an error,” the mother of a 9th grader from another Russian region complained to us. – The date of birth is incorrect. When it will be replaced now, in what time frame, is unknown. The kid is going to college, and now we’re wasting time. Unfortunately, not everything is so simple. They wrote a statement, everything goes through Moscow …

MK contacted the Lyceum of Information Technologies, and it turned out that its leadership showed miracles of efficiency and resourcefulness in order to settle the growing scandal as quickly as possible:

– Today all the certificates have already been issued! There are no problems, – they told us in the lyceum.

Another similar example – three years ago in Nizhny Novgorod, an error in the certificates of 9th grade students of the 109th school of the Kanavinsky district was discovered only a month after graduation. Surprisingly, in almost 100 certificates, neither parents, nor teachers, nor schoolchildren themselves noticed it. And they spotted a blunder only in the admissions committees of colleges, where students came to apply.

One of the school staff reminded that you need to be careful about the documents you receive:

– When a certificate is issued in your hands, you sign that there are no errors in it, and you accepted it. You need to carefully read what it says.

Such situations are very unfortunate! – arise from time to time, – Viktor Panin, chairman of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Citizens’ Rights in Education, commented to MK. – As a rule, due to the inattention of employees who are involved in the preparation of certification documents.

Of course, these are completely unacceptable things, because everything related to the graduation, admission of children to educational institutions has strict time limits. And often such a typo can play a negative role in the fate of a person if he does not hand over his documents on time and is not enrolled where he wanted. For submitting documents to a university or college, for example, a discrepancy in the name of an educational institution, a discrepancy in the form of an educational institution can become a significant problem.

Who should be held accountable for such mistakes?

– Responsibility must be borne by those who were to blame. They will conduct an appropriate internal investigation – I am sure that this lyceum has already conducted it, and someone will either be fired or fined, organized conclusions will be drawn. It is important that each of the leaders himself or through his closest assistants keep this process under control.
