A Welsh family had to organize the same relative’s funeral twice due to a mistake by mortuary staff. This was reported by the British newspaper Daily Mail.
According to the publication, the family, who did not consent to the disclosure of detailed information about them, cremated a relative at Sirchowie Crematorium in South Wales. However, the local health department later discovered that the body of the deceased had been released to them by the mortuary at Grange University Hospital by mistake. In fact, the cremated person did not have a single known living relative.
The heartbroken family was forced to hold a second funeral for their relative two weeks after the first.
The head of the health department, Nikola Prigodzic, met with the victims and apologized to them. She also stated that what happened was an exceptional case due to a single human error.
