Some infectious diseases can be transmitted to humans from pets. Tatyana Sergeeva, an infectious disease specialist at ICH No. 2 of the Moscow Health Department, told about this.
So, from pets you can become infected with toxoplasmosis, rabies, fungal skin lesions, ornithosis, helminthic infestations, leptospirosis and other diseases. And some of them are deadly, such as rabies. Ornithosis, which affects birds, can lead to severe pneumonia in humans.
The expert advises to regularly monitor the condition of your pets and do not forget about vaccination. She also does not advise buying animals from hands, but only in special stores and nurseries.
Sergeeva categorically does not recommend kissing animals, sleeping with them and allowing them to climb onto the dining table. You also need to clean the trays and cages in a timely manner, and wash your hands after communicating with the pet.
“Kids love to bring home field mice, other wild-caught animals. This is absolutely impossible to do! Rodents can be carriers of serious diseases – yersiniosis, hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome, ”she warned.
