Age spots on the skin may indicate a pathology, such as chronic renal failure, said in a conversation with Life cosmetologist-dermatovenereologist Lyudmila Egzhina.
According to her, dirty gray or dark brown spots appear on the skin with chronic renal failure, this is more typical for the eyelids and symmetrically, they can also occur on the hands.
The doctor added that pigments often appear with liver diseases: light spots are grouped in the cheek area, and with thyroid disease they appear on the eyelids and around the eyes.
A much larger volume of pigments is given not by the disease itself, but by taking medicinal tablets. For example, glaucoma does not give pigmentation, but the medications that are used for treatment give very clear pigmentation on the eyelids, Egzhina noted.
The specialist emphasized that most often pigments occur in women when balancing hormonal levels, for example, during menopause or pregnancy.
The doctor concluded that spots can appear in the area of the chin, cheeks, and also above the upper lip during hormone replacement therapy.
