Sports commentator Vladimir Pisarevsky has died at the age of 87. This was reported to TASS on Saturday by his daughter Anastasia Pisarevskaya. According to her, two weeks ago, Mr. Pisarevsky fell ill with coronavirus, then he was diagnosed with an ischemic stroke.
“It happened today, at 6 o’clock in the morning, in the 81st hospital in Moscow,” she said. Vladimir Pisarevsky will be buried at the Vagankovsky cemetery. Farewell will take place on February 21.
Vladimir Pisarevsky worked for the USSR State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, reported on 26 world championships, and for more than 45 years covered major hockey matches on Radio Mayak. He also worked at the radio station “Echo of Moscow” and the TV channel “TV-6”.
Before his career as a commentator, Vladimir Pisarevsky was a hockey player. In the 1950s, he played for Dynamo Moscow, Khimik, and Chelyabinsk Traktor.
In 2003, Vladimir Pisarevsky received an award from the International Sports Press Association for his outstanding professional contribution to the development of sports journalism. In 2005 he was awarded the title of Honored Worker of Culture of Russia.
