The Soviet actor and director, associate professor of the Volgograd State Institute of Art and Culture (VGIIK) Yevgeny Basilashvili has passed away, RIA Novosti reports with reference to university graduate Tatyana Glushchenko.
Glushchenko said on the social network VKontakte: “My great master. Evgeny Leonovich Basilashvili. Great professional in his field <...> Without you, my world has become much darker and sadder. Kingdom of heaven to you.” Basilashvili reportedly passed away on 26 April.
A member of the Union of Theater Workers of Russia, Yevgeny Leonovich Basilashvili was a graduate of the Georgian State Theater Institute. He staged the performances Farewell to the Ravine and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, and also starred in the psychological drama Let’s Talk.
Basilashvili received the title of Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR. During his career, he worked at the Tbilisi Russian Youth Theater and the Volgograd Theater for Young Spectators, and since the 1990s he has worked at VGIIK.
