Germany’s population reached 84 million for the first time in history. Such data are given by the newspaper Die Welt.
According to the Federal Statistical Office, such a significant increase in the country’s population is associated with an influx of migrants, primarily from Ukraine.
According to preliminary estimates, net immigration amounted to about a million people. This is seven times more than in the first half of 2021, when 134,000 migrants entered the country.
The last time Germany faced such a large number of migrants was in 1992 due to the opening of borders in Eastern Europe and the wars in Yugoslavia, and also in 2015 due to the influx of migrants from the Middle East.
